Concordia Parish Gardening Day returns this October

(09/02/26) VIDALIA, La. — The LSU AgCenter Concordia Parish Extension office is partnering with local groups to host its annual Community Gardening Day on Monday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event will be held at CM Farm Ranch at 1368 La. Highway 900 in Clayton.

The event began last year when CM Farm Ranch owner Stacey McGraw approached the Concordia Parish office of the LSU AgCenter about a partnership to share garden and health information with the community using the local food system as a catalyst.

McGraw envisioned an event where local food producers could engage with adults and youth to build enthusiasm for local foods as well as potential careers in agriculture. More than 150 people attended last year’s gathering, which encouraged the organizers to continue and expand the program for fall 2026.

This year’s event will include a main stage featuring demonstrations from Delta Master Gardeners, Concordia Parish 4-H and Seeds to Success: The Louisiana Farm to School Program. Additional programming will be a Kids Alley for hands-on learning activities, a pop-up farmers market featuring local vendors and activities for adults and seniors.

Concessions and the farmers market will offer snack and lunch options for purchase. Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring a folding chair for comfort as no formal seating is provided on-site.

Community Gardening Day admission is free and open to the public, and no fees are charged for vendor booths.

School/student groups are asked to call and register by Thursday, Oct. 8. Local organizations and businesses are invited to sponsor the event. Contact the Concordia Parish LSU AgCenter Extension office at 318-414-6055 for more information.
