Calcasieu Parish Junior Leaders

What Are Junior Leaders?

Junior Leaders are 4-H members in grades 7-12 who want to take an active role in shaping the future of 4-H. Junior Leaders serve as role models for younger members, assist with parish events, participate in community service projects, and represent Calcasieu Parish 4-H throughout Louisiana and beyond.

Louisiana 4-H offers numerous opportunities for teen leaders to grow beyond the parish level. Through statewide events and leadership experiences, members can connect with 4-H'ers from across Louisiana and expand their leadership skills. Louisiana 4-H youth can participate in events such as the Junior Leadership Conference (JLC), 4-H University, and State Leadership Boards. The Louisiana 4-H Executive Board plans and leads the Junior Leadership Conference, which is a statewide event created by youth, for youth.

Louisiana 4-H members may also apply for State Leadership Boards and Ambassador programs that focus on areas such as citizenship, healthy living, STEM, fashion, livestock, equine, wetlands, and shooting sports. These boards help plan state programs, represent Louisiana 4-H, and serve as ambassadors for fellow members

State leadership opportunities help members:

  • Gain advanced leadership training
  • Represent their parish and state
  • Develop teamwork and communication skills
  • Network with youth leaders across Louisiana
  • Make an impact on statewide 4-H programs

4-H leadership doesn't stop at the state level. Outstanding teen leaders can participate in national leadership and citizenship experiences that connect them with youth from across the country.

National 4-H opportunities include:

  • National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.
  • National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Other national leadership, citizenship, and advocacy experiences

National 4-H Conference is the flagship youth development event of the USDA and gives delegates the opportunity to share their perspectives with federal agencies and government leaders while developing leadership and civic engagement skills.

National 4-H Congress brings together youth from across the United States for leadership workshops, service-learning projects, networking, and personal development experiences.

These experiences help young people build confidence, broaden their perspectives, and become leaders in their communities, state, and nation.
