I want to share information about several upcoming events and other opportunities.

Strawberry Fungicide Summary Updated + Fungicide Resistance Sampling

The updated summary is available for downloading here. If you compare this year’s summary to last year’s, you’ll see that the efficacy rating for captan against Neopestalotiopsis has been changed from “poor” to “fair.” This reflects a decision made in this summer’s meeting about the Southern Region Small Fruit Consortium strawberry IPM guide. It is anticipated that the 2027 guide will reflect this change, when it is released here. It also shows that there is a now an alternative, called Rondel, to the flutriafol fungicide Rhyme.

One reason for the fungicide summary is to summarize options that are still expected to be effective against the Botrytis (grey mold) and anthracnose fruit rot pathogens, since fungicide resistance issues exist. We have funding available for testing Botrytis samples to identify what fungicides are still likely to be effective and to what fungicides the pathogen is resistant. If you’d like us to take a sample from your field this season, please let me (or your Extension agent, if you’re not in Tangipahoa or Washington Parish) know.

Heirs’ Property Workshop – October 24 (Franklinton)

Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center is holding this event at New Jerusalem Baptist Church (44030 Max Brumfield Road, Franklinton) at 11 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2026. From the organizers: “Heirs’ property can create challenges that affect land ownership, access to agricultural programs, and a family’s ability to pass property to the next generation. This workshop will help families better understand how to prevent heirs’ property issues, address existing ownership concerns, and take the next steps toward resolving their property needs.” See the Facebook post about the event or contact Jamerson Jackson, JD (225-377-3830), for more information.
